just got my first USAC race license
They started me at Cat2 when they saw my name.
Just kidding. But I'm excited. Training races start in March. The weather isn't dipping much past 40 degrees these days and spring is on it's way. Anyone getting AMPED?

Have fun racing! I did one race last year and had TONS of fun. I've been crazy nervous pretty much everyday since because I've only had a few group rides since the winter and I feel like I'm going to get dropped at the start line. But yes, AMPED ! This year will be huge. I think I may come down to the states for a few races this year, I'll have to talk to my coach about that though; you thinking about coming to Ontario at all?

Congrats on taking the plunge. I'd advise reading the stickied info asap - it's good stuff.

Speaking of first licenses, I have a question. I had my first race last weekend, on the 17th, and paid the $60 to get a full license, rather than just a one day. I've got my next race this weekend, on Sunday, but haven't gotten any confirmation yet that my license has been processed or anything. So when I show up to this race on Sunday what do I do if I haven't gotten a license by then?

you can print an authorization to race from usacycling.com
you don't actually ever need a license if you print one every 30 days.

Explain it to the race officials, sometimes they can lag on processing paperwork. Have you visited the USAC website, yet?

The officials file the paperwork, including the annual application. Usually it goes to the district rep. The district rep then files the paperwork with Colorado. Someone in CO inputs your data. You get your license shortly after that step.
It can take 6-8 weeks or even longer.
You won't be in the system for a while because you'll exist only on hard copies in the official's and rep's hands. You can't print an authorization to ride because there's no record of you in Colorado.
If you don't have a carbon copy of your annual renewal then you need to get in touch with the promoter and get one, or somehow convince the district rep that you paid for an annual. It would be best to have either a carbon copy of that application or a fax of the application that you can print out.
In the past people used to fill out another annual at the next race. To avoid this USAC said they won't refund license fees or something to that effect. Not sure about what the policy is for 2013.
This is a weakness in USAC's licensing structure. It would be best to force people to buy a license online (even at the races - maybe through smartphone etc) because the you'd get the license relatively quickly. I recommend people get their licenses online rather than at the race for this reason.

Hell I'll pay for your license.
To answer your questions, "yes you do" and "wait a lap and tell them that someone needed extra help".
