One thing that people don't necessarily understand immediately is that results aren't the only thing that matter when you're trying to join a pro team. It's not a pure meritocracy. Maybe the race director doesn't want an older racer. Maybe they think you're too smart, or too stupid, or unable to listen to directions, or they don't need another climber but they do need a couple of big guys. There are a lot of reasons why someone might or might not get picked up, but in the end of the day it usually boils down to an individual making a decision.

I think this is what it is coming down to. Things seem to be heading in that direction, but it will be more about...Is this the life I want to live?
