Racing in St. Louis
Hi, I am trying to decide if it's worth spending the airline fee to bring my bike with me on a 2 week business trip in St. Louis. What would make it worth it? Having the opportunity to do some good racing over the weekend that I will be there, May 10-11, 2014. I went to the USAC website and it appears that there is only a training crit on Saturday about 2-1/2 hours east of St. Louis.
Per the website, there is a Tuesday evening training race and a Wednesday evening TT in St. Louis.
Is May 10-11 really an "off" weekend -- no racing in the St. Louis area?
I have the option of flying home over that weekend but that would leave me without any training during the work week for those two weeks.
TIA for any information that anyone can provide.

I started riding in that city, only raced a training crit once though, so no useful information on racing per se.
However there is a good group ride on Sundays. Used to be at 7am I think? Not official by any means, but a good 70 mi or so. Look up the "Knucklehead" ride or call ahead and ask the folks at Big Shark or Mesa Cycles. They might be able to clue you into the start time and where it is still happening.
Its been a few years so I can't say anything for sure...

@kindablue, thanks for the info. If I stay the weekend I'll definitely check it out. I found more details on the training crit and the training TT. Is it worth it to have my bike with me to do those races over the course of two weeks? Need to ponder that.

Tuesday Night Worlds and Wednesday TT are both very well run and well attended. The Knucklehead Ride is still going; call The Hub for more details on that as it's far away from me and I don't ride it. There's also a Monday Night Ride from Mueller Park in St. Charles that is 30 miles and pancake flat, but race pace with attacking, sprint finish, etc and a couple of Thur night rides, including one that I do semi-regularly.
There are no races the weekend of May 10th, though there are plenty of regular, organized group rides taking place primarily on Saturday mornings. It's not SoCal or Boulder, but we've got a great scene and enough organized rides/races to fill most of your week. PM me if you want more details or want to hook up and ride. I say bring the bike, but I'm not paying for it.
Oh yeah, there's track racing at Penrose Park Velodrome on Thursday evenings as well.
