Looks like a lot of rain Friday night and Saturday morning. Which might affect the Cielo crit, because the back stretch at the fairgrounds is a pond when it rains.

Bikereg is showing only a 19 mile Gran Fondo for Jamestown this year, anyone know more about this?

If it's short enough that I can squeeze it in after dinner, I'm not sure it's a Gran Fondo.

You should train, but you should keep it short.

Sadly, I'm out for the Giro del Cielo. I'm on day 2 of a terrible migraine. I wasn't able to sleep or eat for the first 24 hours. It's receded enough now that I got some sleep last night and ate some cereal just now, but it's still there, and no way am I doing 3 stages of racing this weekend.

I've only ever had one migraine before. It sucks. I'm usually a pretty healthy guy but this has been my year for weird medical problems.

Just went out for a spin to blow some air through my head and got a flat. I stood there looking at the thing failing to muster the energy to change it. I was about to give up and ride the rim home when a buddy drove by and rescued me. Sad!

Is anybody doing the Jam Fund ride next weekend? @shovelhd?

I've been wanting to do the Grand Fundo for a few years, but it's never fallen at a time that works for me. This year my excuse is I'm tired and don't need a hard ride as I'm just about to start my build for cyclocross.

At the end of my bike shop days I was so burnt out I didn't want to do any bike work, even fixing a flat. I went through tires slowly and decided to change a flat when I was on one of my last set of race wheels. It was probably 5 or 6 years before I changed a flat.

Then I thought, man, that was dumb. Flatting a Vittoria Corsa CX or CG (or just plain using them up) because I didn't want to spend a few minutes changing a tube.

I also didn't clean my bike in that time, just added WD-40 or TriFlow. It was not pretty.

Fundo, no Hundo for me. I'm riding the Redline with SB8's so no speed for me either. Just gonna chill and enjoy. Mrs. Shovel plans on joining me for the BBQ afterwards. If so we will take a detour to the winery for a bit. She likes their Cab.

I'm about 80/20 in for the ride so I'll look for you.

My buddy who always does this ride says it's not really a gravel/dirt ride, just has some pretty clean dirt sections, is that right? Are you riding cross tires because it's what happens to be on the bike, or because that's what the ride calls for?

i've done it on a road bike. bring good tires and you'll be fine. it's a really fun ride, definitely tough if you're pushing the pace too. the years i've done it the "fast guys" have pushed the pace on the first dirt section to shred the group a bit. bummed to miss it again this year!

Brotatos of the 33,

Hilltowns prereg goes up 20 bucks after midnight. It is the old East Hawley course, and it is a stone cold classic.

I've done the Fundo on the Felt with 25's but cut tires. I'm not good on dirt climbs of which there are plenty so I'm taking the Redline with 33's and a 34/32. We will see how that works out.

Hilltowns preregistration goes up $10 tonight to $60 for a week, then $65, and $70 day of.

Was just giving myself the ol' forehead smack for missing the $50 price. Oh well. NCC is a good club. They can have an extra $10 from me.

Hilltowns has been and always will be on a Saturday. Eight small towns with multiple churches preclude it.

Thanks for your support.
