I know a guy who had a cool fender on kickstarter, but his funding number was so huge he never came close. From a distance I wasn't really sure why he set it up that way, though I saw him write something about significant production minimums.

Anyway, I like racing in the rain...riding in the rain, not so much.

If I put silk tires on junior's bike, it will rain.
This is the primary reason for the end of the SoCal drought.

I'm interested in which fenders you're considering. Especially after having done intervals in a frog-strangler yesterday.

I use the "SKS Raceblade" - it's basic but enough to keep your ass dry.

As far as excuses for not riding in the rain, this one is pretty decent. But "I'd melt" would be much more convincing!

I knew teasing Fudgy about not riding in the rain would bring on the deluge of no-rain-riding excuses. I like to watch them rain down while I reign supreme while riding in the rain.

Anyway, what will you do when you're the yellow jersey at SDSR going in to the crit and it rains??

I have those. My main complaint with those is that they throw all the road crud right into your calipers. I built up a CX bike this year and I'm going to see if I can fit full fenders on it.

Better rein yourself in, Junior.

Will the SKS fenders work with 28mm-wide tires?

if the risk is worth the reward, then sure. but from what ive heard about SDSR there seems to be plenty of unnecessary risks even if its not raining, so I probably wont ride it.

You mean dissolve...

I can't find the link, but Hunter Allen did a video on the health risks of riding in the rain. The argument was so much crap on the road gets thrown up and we end up ingesting it, so if you have a race coming up soon, it can be better to skip riding in the rain to avoid that risk.

I dunno, it sounds like scheibo would actually melt.

Probably crash like everyone else at SDSR when it rains!

when someone has a race within 8 weeks, i recommend living in isolation, cutting off all ties to the outside world. it's the safest option.

rankin116 11-04-17 06:49 AM

I like to hermetically seal myself in an airtight bubble 1 week out from a race. Have to regulate the breathing though

TheKillerPenguin 11-04-17 08:14 AM

I break out the latex gimp suit and mask, it's a good germ barrier and makes my butt look awesome.

Not tried yet. I might put the long ones on tomorrow for the ride. Here are the two lengths.

too much aero give-away

Which one?

All quips aside, the position of the legs might have major aero impact IMO.
I tend to think a bit wider may allow more wind to pass through un-encumbered.

Doge 11-26-17 11:03 AM

He prefers the wider. There have not been, and may not be any tests on power. I think the difference would be too small to pick anything up.

Doge 12-05-17 08:54 AM

John Degenkolb's bike has them. @:26

Tech question ... does anyone know the bolt size for sram front limit screws?

I'm sure someone somewhere does!

And it probably depends on the derailleur model.

That's what I'm hoping ... 10sp sram force.
