I'd guess Bernard Hinault, since he is commonly associated as the guy whom Look first supplied with clipless pedals. I don't know when this happened, though...

Smoothie104, we are eagerly awaiting your question...

Smoothie104 04-06-05 11:13 AM

doing taxes at the moment, ugh..... ok let me think....

What year's TdF was the first one not to start in France, and where did it start.

There have been many first stages that started in France and ended elsewhere, but Im looking for the first time the start line for the first stage was outside of France.

When and Where..... hopefully this will take an hour of two for you guys.. hahaa...

Csson 04-06-05 11:50 AM

Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1954?

Smoothie104 04-06-05 12:28 PM

Wow, you guys are good....

Csson, take it..

Csson 04-06-05 12:52 PM

Ok :).

Which town was the first to host a stage finish for both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France in the same year, and what year was it?

gcasillo 04-06-05 03:58 PM

Wow, tough one. Closest I can get is 1955 in Cannes and Monaco. The Giro raced Turin-Cannes; the Tour, Briancon-Monaco. Same city right?

Csson 04-07-05 06:43 AM

Nope :).

Csson 04-07-05 12:01 PM

Maybe this was harder than I meant it to be.. A couple of hints:

* I believe it has only happened once.
* There's a famous climb just outside the town that was included in both stages.
* The Giro stage also included that years Cima Coppi. Passo Stelvio is the only climb used in the history of the Giro that is higher than this particular climb.

ed073 04-07-05 08:40 PM

Sestrieres? No idea on the year....

ed073 04-10-05 07:47 PM

bump....

Someone answer this!!

alraicercsu 04-10-05 07:56 PM

Bormio in 1953

lotek 04-11-05 07:09 AM

God I hope thats the answer. . . we've been waiting too long!

No. I'll end this.. Briancon, 2000. But who was the only rider to finish in the top ten in both those stages?

Bruco 04-12-05 01:36 AM

The late Marco Pantani?
