snap. here's your application for free samples. it's a google sponsored link!

if only I worked at a research university...

I'll put in $20 if someone wants to start a phishing website to see who is applying for free samples! @mattm you can do this right.

Actually I think USADA busted a number of people recently by tracking their online purchases of banned substances, without a positive drug test.

This is interesting now, 5 years later, based on the names (list at bottom of article.)

A score of 0 indicated no suspicion, 10 indicated the highest level of suspicious blood activity

Who Punched Eddy Merckx? The Conclusion | Bicycling
Then again, one of the surprises about Merckx is how vulnerable and insecure he appeared to be. His fragility manifested itself in his fastidiousness about his equipment—he was forever tinkering with his saddle height, and even on the Pra Loup stage changed bikes three times before the first climb—and, says Friebe, in his tendency to “whinge” about his physical state. As Thévenet, who liked Merckx, said: “The only issue I had with him was the way he was always complaining about some injury or ailment. It got tiresome, because he’d say that then win anyway. So it became like the boy who cried wolf. We just used to roll our eyes. ‘I’m hurting here. I’m hurting there…’ ‘Yeah, sure you are, Eddy…’”

The finish to Stage1 in Tour of Poland was intensely technical - to the point where I'm wondering if they broke the "final turn too close to the finish line" rule.
Anyway - the last couple of k were nuts - worth a watch.

I wonder how much yelling happens in a world tour race when you dive bomb the last corner and don't even win.

It's really good to see Phinney can still be competitive after such a gnarly injury and so much time off of racing, and it's great that the team was willing to invest into his recovery the way it did. He must be stoked.

the last two stages of ToUtah have been really good. the finishing circuits are hilly so it breaks up the trains and makes for a lot of attacks and hero moves. and its good to see the local teams/kids put it to the internationals

He's in the hospital with a bunch of broken stuff but doesn't need surgery or anything like that. Relatively lucky, it looked like it should've been much worse.
