Bikes: Trek 7.5 FX

I lived in the CLT area for a few years, and chances are it's not as bike-conscious as the place from which you moved. But they're working on it: LINK

The Charlotte Dept of transportation has produced a "bicycle cuitability map" that may aid you in finding routes. Unfortunately it seems it's not available online. But you can call/visit them, and they are close to your workplace.

Mecklenburg/Union Counties Bicycle Suitability Map
This map is designed to help cyclists use the existing network of thoroughfares to travel through this busy, urbanized area. Five designations are shown — moderate, advanced, extreme caution, not recommended and prohibited. Collector streets, which are not rated but are typically suitable for bicycling, are also highlighted. Locations of parks, museums, libraries, schools and other destinations are shown. Safety information is provided.
