Any ideas on what to look for, or could it be that the internal part of the hub that makes up the 'freewheel' is gone? Don't know anything about the inner workings of the cassette. I've had the wheel for 4 years and bought it used so I don't know how old it is, or how well it maintained before I had it. I only started to use it alot 8 weeks ago. Any ideas/suggestions are welcome. I don't really want to switch to the axiom hub yet, it's too loud.
Sounds like the internals of the freehub are shot. You can replace this pretty easily. Repacking freehubs is not a job I would recommend unless you like to be frustrated by scads of tiny bearings and springs. What model hub do you have? I might have an old wheel with a usable freehub.
