I'm headed to Oahu next week and faced the same delima. I decided I didn't want to spend time on my vacation assembling a bike and packing it back up again. I couldn't find a bike I thought would be fun to ride, but at the same time cheap enough to justify leaving. I didn't want to throw away $200 on a rental either. My solution: I bought a folder. I guess they don't make folder bents though. In the end it's just the cost of the activity. If it's not worth it to you, chill on the beach instead.
