However, two seconds afterward, I heard the -- whish, whish, whish -- of a seriously flat tire. Turns out the nail did puncture the tire while making its round trip to the fender bracket.
I had something similar happen with a nail in a tyre on a commute about four years ago. The difference was that I didn't hear the whish, whish, whish for another 8,000km after that moment. I still haven't figured that one out.
