I think that's what it comes down too. There may be some subtle differences in the ride charasteristics and handling, but no major difference in performance.

If you like the ride and fit of both, it comes down to whether you want to pay the extra for the cache.
And I'm not suggesting there would be anything wrong with doing so. Just realize that you'd be paying for the history/cache of the name in large measure.

If money's tight, I'd buy the Specialized. If you're not too price sensitive, I'd try to arrange an extended test ride of both and pick the one you found most comfortable.
