The anti-light, anti-helmet currents run DEEP, there was a local bike shop owner going off last night on a Seattle internet board about a local counterculture night ride. How most people on these rides don't have lights and no one wears helmets.....he seemed full of hubris about the lack of safety equipment. Wacky and Wild is all i have to say about that.
Regardless of your feelings about "cool" cycling, I assume YOU cycle responsibly with an awareness (and brakes) that you might come across such cyclists and other roadside hazards in your travels.
