You know recent controversy over the actual manufacturer of the Diacompe hubs, and the set of wheels I just noticed today over at Chucksbikes leads me to believe they might be making them without the cutouts now.
I also noticed Somas hubs which had a teardrop cutout are now coming sans cutout. Maybe we're seeing a new styling trend away from the cutouts. Maybe they are trying to look more like Duraace, and Phil hubs than Vintage Campy now. Makes sense the cutouts add to the manufacturing cost. So if they can save a step, offer a product that seems to have "new styling" and keep the price the same it's like free money for the manufacturer. From an end user standpoint the only difference are weight, and perhaps durability. Given how small the cutouts are on formula hubs I doubt there's much difference at all.
