Another (Helmet) Light thread

Hey all.

First off, let me confess that I don't commute by bike. I know, it might seem that I am in the wrong forum. However, you guys are without a doubt the forum experts on light systems, so I thought I would ask my questions here.

Right now I'm running a L&M ARC NiMH on my handlebars. I am absolutely amazed at how much light it throws out on the road... I couldn't be happier with the light. However, when I'm out on night rides, there is a nagging feeling of "what if my light dies." Unlikely, yes, but without the arc I would be stranded and calling around to find a ride. I've also been thinking that it might be nice to have a helmet light to be able to look around a bit when I'm riding on unlit, rural roads surrounded by fields.

How many of you guys ride with a helmet light? Do you like using the helmet light? If I started using one, would it be an enlightening experience... after which I would never be able to ride without one again?

I was doing some searching and I found the L&M Solo on Nashbar for $88 (including 20% off coupon). Any opinions on it? How much better is the Solo Logic? Sounds like the Logic has 3 power modes, more compatibility with L&M's batteries, an adjustable beam, a soft start, etc. Is that enough to justify spending nearly $60 more on the light?

Any other suggestions for good helmet lights? Feel free to insert unrelated philosophical musings/words of wisdom if you wish!

Nick
