A screwdriver is not going to do it unless you can find a super-strong screwdriver, of the type where the blade runs all the way through the handle, providing a solid metal part at the back of the handle to hammer on.

If you use a normal screwdriver with a plastic handle, you would shatter the handle if you hit it hard enough for this application. You need an all-steel punch. My favorite is a recycled pedal spindle, where I've re-shaped the business end on a grinding wheel.
