Totally depends on the terrain, your chainring sizes and most importantly your personal preference.

Perhaps you could post some more info regading these...

I run 53/39 and 11-23...works fine. If I lived in the mountains I'd go to 12-27. I used a 12-25 for a race in the mountains this year while running a compact (50/34) crank, and had sufficent gearing.
