(or anyone) . . . in pic #7, what is the function of that black thumb screw. It looks like it goes into that spring to the right. Just curious.

Nice looking bike. My vintage bike dates from '73 and rides great, but, it looks like a beater. I'd give anything (except money) to get it to look new again.
