I pulled a freakin awesome emergency traffic maneuver on the way to work today. I was watching one of those timers count down from 7 and I was still a little ways from the intersection of Front and Lower Simcoe. I figured I could run the red a little because there is hardly ever traffic crossing that intersection because its a dead end going south; cars usually turn left or right. As I expected there was nobody doing this, but there was a car ehaded my direction that wanted to turn left. I was just about at the white line for the intersection when he started to turn left while honking. I dunno what he was thinking, but had I been a car it would have been quite a mess!
Anyways, as soon as he blocks my path I pull a hard skidding emergency right to get parallel with him, but I'm going so fast I can't get quite in line with him and end up more in front of him. He's bearing down on me so I have to start skidding the other direction around the front of the car, but I can't turn hard enough, so I skip my rear wheel a few times and let the rear fishtail and put the bike almost sideways into the turn. At this point I still have quite a bit of speed and I'm heading straight into a pack of pedestrians at the corner, so I have to start skidding right again and throw my weight over the other side of the bike. At this point my right foot unclips while I'm skidding and I somehow don't go down and kill the pedestrians (who had all jumped back and taken cover at this point), and then remerge onto front.
For some reason it was super fun, unlike my other traffic adventures. Maybe its because I was in the wrong?
