I think the lesson there is that sometimes you can't have enough light. IOW, in some cases it wouldn't matter if you had 100 HID's pointing backwards, people would still hit you.
A friend is a state transportation engineer (road designer) and he recently posted (elsewhere) about reports he's seen come in where drivers who are in a daze have driven through multiple construction barriers and slammed full speed into the back of parked construction equipment, and later said that the equipment "just came out of nowhere"
Obviously sometimes you just can't win. I thing at some point adding more lights is just serving to irritate/blind overtaking drivers.
