I'm also not saying you're a bad cyclist, but unfortunately an on-road cyclist needs to be a 5x better operator than his or her motor vehicle operator counterpart. Chepy has some good suggestions.

But it sounds as if you perhaps rely too much on other road users to be smart and corteous and safe around you. To some degree it's unavoidable, of course. But often one can take steps to take more of one's destiny into one's own hands. A cycling course could actually be helpful.
