I have screwed up chain breaking/reassembly a couple of times. I have never screwed up idler pully removal. I was at a Park Tool School session last year and suggested the idler pully method as an alternative, was told chain breaking is the "preferred" method!
Could that be because Park sells a chain tool but all you need to remove the Dr. pulley is a screwdriver or adjustable wrench!
