I would look at the Parktools page for good repair how to instructions and the Zinn book. You may also want to practice some of this stuff at home. Adjusting your derailleurs isn't all that hard, but I wouldn't want my first time to be in the middle of nowhere in failing light. Also, threading a spoke and truing a wheel roadside is beyond my ability.

I have a Crankbrothers 19 piece multitool that has most of the thing you would need. I like it pretty well. I would also invest in a couple of spare SRAM masterlinks for chain troubles.
