the bottom of my bar is horizontal to the ground which makes my shifters a fair bit lower than yours.
if i had them there, i would have to stretch my thumb up to shift in the drops.

Well, its comfortable for me. I would actually say your shifters are at a strange angle. I have never seen a bike set up like that.
