Not if a little water is added to the meths it doesn't.
Which, as an experience camper pointed out to me, means you are wasting energy evaporating the water out of the alcohol before it gets to heat your pot. Tried it... I prefer to go with the blackened pot, which is more energy efficient, anyway. Trangias get over the soot getting on other gear by having the pot inside the windshield.
