If the machine screw has been stripped the the machine screw (bolt) is stuffed and more than likely so are the shoe threads. The machine screws holding the cleats to the shoe won't and can't stay tight.

Never ever ever never over tighten anything. All you do is stuff it.

this said this only applies if the machine screws are stripped.
