The shipper is covered. If there is damage the carrier will want to inspect both the item and the packaging, and *they* determine to what extent you are covered. It also takes a fair amount of time - several weeks - to get closure, if any.
I have found that it only takes 8 to 10 days for closure, of course we are one of their biggest customers in the area
