That's what I have heard, but why would Fignon use this setup when the Tour is at stake if it is so risky? Perhaps it isn't as bad as people say? Or maybe they just knew the weather for that day and decided to go with it.

Anyway, I think jimbud answered my question. Zipps and HEDs get as close to the full aero benefit while letting the rider have the control he/she needs. It seems to make sense.
