I just bought a new chain for my bike and I have never installed a chain before. My question is how much should I shorten my chain, how can I tell when it is the correct length? it is on a bike I am building up so I have no other chain to measure with.

It is a nine speed with a LX rear deraileur and I do have a chain tool.
