I tend to agree with slowandsteady. There is quite a bit of variability in different saddle leather. I have the B-17 Champion Special on 3 bikes. The oldest one has 7 years and app. 20,000 miles on it, and was the softest and quickest to break in, becoming comfortable on long rides after only a hundred miles or so. The last two took longer - probably 1200 miles on my second saddle, and the last one still isn't as comfortable after app. 500 miles. You certainly can't go wrong with pre-softened saddles, and if you get if from Wall, you can return it if you don't like it. I wonder if pre-softened is another word for returned by a previous owner?

I would also recommend sticking to the Brooks official guide to breaking in the saddle using proofide. You can probably do it quicker using other methods, but I think the shortcuts make the saddle too soft in the long run.
