I am going to say yes based on the fact that when I needed a 2 notch tool and I only had a 4 prong tool, I ground off two prongs and easily removed the freewheel. In either case, make sure you use the axle nut to keep the tool engaged with the notches until you break the freewheel loose.
I have no idea about the bonus question.
