yes, WHY ON EARTH do you wash your goretex every third wearing?
that's just foolery, cyclezealot. you DO need to wash goretex in non-detergent soaps (specific gore soaps, or Ivory flakes!) and not mix it in with the usual stuff. Softeners, detergents all clog the pores in the goretex and it does not function as well.
hand wash it if you MUST, but doing to every third wash seems incredibly excessive......
All my cycling specific cycling clothing is wool, all I do is wait until my wool socks and wool cycling clothes make a load, then wash in hot water and some wool friendly soaps.....this is year round attire, in the summer its lowtop smart wool socks, wool shorts and thin wool jerseys, in the winter its thick woolies.
Goretex outerwear, washing every third wearing, not. more like once or twice a year, maybe?
when Goretex outerwear gets washed so often it loses the special DWR coatings and you stand a chance of clogging gore membrane further with the wrong soaps.
nikwax washes do smell bad. try ivory flakes.
