Wow, the turmoil I started with this simple thread! I just wanted to try to keep the bike original since that is what C&V is all about, right?! If the bike still didn't have what looks to be the original black cloth tape on it still then maybe I'd consider another derailleur. Glad I could get some useful knowledge thrown out there as mine is so limited in these regards.
Bigbossman, thanks for the RD offer. I think I'll take you up on that. I'll PM some sending info.
