Stick a fork in it.
Man, am I glad that's over. No. I didn't do 100. The four of us packed it in at the second rest stop for about 50 miles. It was FREEZING! The sun came out for about 10 minutes at the start, and then disappeared for the day. It was 33F at the start and I don't think the temperature got near 45F. My toes went AWOL after the first few miles, and my lower legs never got working well. Seven layers on top, thick tights, two layers of socks and a wind cover on the shoes. I had a FREAKIN' stocking cap on under my helmet. When we turned around, we had a headwind, and then my feet went numb. I don't need that kind of abuse, dammit! I'll try some better weather for my next attempt at a century.
From watching the traffic, lots of folks packed it in at 50. One of the finish line workers told us the course marshals had to go pick up 7 hypothermia cases. They had good pasta, though.
Sorry, we didn't get to meet-up with anyone at the start. We got there a tad late and rolled out about 0715.
So, who are the tough ones that went the distance? Come on. Get the bragging over with. Call me a whimp and be done with it.
