In regards to the actual climb, its as hard as you want to make it, assuming you can squeeze by the slow people. I did it in 15 mins 26 seconds and I was definitely ready to collapse jelly legs lungs afire at the top. Walking would be easy, but its about how much you put in. and yeah you get dizzy and lightheaded. I don't think theres enough O2 in that shaft for all the climbers!
agreed. all those folks bedecked in runners gear are probably in fact runners doing it to see how fast they could go. kind of like the fast group you see at the ride for heart; it attracts all kinds.
as for the diffuculty, i think i made it up in something like 14mins (wearing cycling shoes) and i was fatigued at the end soaked in sweat. it took probably 4 times as long to get down once you wait for the elevator.
can't comment on the legitimacy of the United way as a charity; i did it for the novelty and didn't raise any money.
