i used a tensioner like that on my old SS MTB and it giggled and slapped a little when the spring was in the push-down position. not sure if you can switch the spring on yours (the old surly ones you could); i would recommend switching it (or having keith do it) so that the spring pushes the chain up so you get more chain wrap around the cog and eliminate the chain slap problem. but, he's probably already on top of that...
