Yep! And that's how it is supposed to be!!
Don't buy into all the stuff about soaking it in oils etc. ... just rub in a light coating of proofide to protect it (not soften it), and ride!! Oh yes,
do tilt it up in front just a bit like the previous poster mentioned, and don't be surprised if it feels really slippery. That goes away after a few rides.
