SF is a different world now from then. More busy, but probably the last of CA towns with personality, that haven't had it artificially shoved in.
I'm in San Diego now, but it's pretty plastic, housing prices are crazy ~ I couldn't affoard my own house, and I've only been here 2 years. (Up by over 100k in two years.. no cash in my pockette tho..) There's a lot of different strokes, but not any cultural blend, if you know what I mean.
If you like the bay area, but only to visit, you could move to Tracy, or Sacramento.. Don't move to Stockton.
I don't know much anymore.
Have you thought about overseas?
