I know this all too well as I myself went to school and worked a full time job for 8 years to complete my engineering degree. And although I have been more successful than many in life, I still have not become disconnected from the less fortunate or the less hard working. I just don't feel that this attitude is positive for cycling. After all.......The more cyclist we put on the road....The more the authorities have to listen to and accomodate us. That makes it better for everyone.

Dr. Pete of all people should not be detached because he has to work with them on their own respective levels every day. I had a very good friend named Bill who was an Internal Medicine Specialist. He was killed while cycling down Fort Mountain in Georgia. At his funeral he was eulogized by several cyclists and I couldn't believe the respect that some of the ones who were less fortunate than him had for him. He would have never belittled someone for their choice of bikes. Had he been asked he would have simply given good advice. Dr. Bill was a great man and a great cyclist. Dr. Pete should use someone like that as a role model.
