Ultegra shifter woes... is it the cold weather?

I have Ultegra shifters on a triple, recently replaced the Tiagras which crapped out on me... Now, after a few rides without ill effects (but also without a lot of shifting into the big ring) I had a heck of a time shifting back into the middle ring from the big ring on the chainrings.

It was not a problem when I was on the trainer last night, but on an outdoor ride it took a bunch of tries to get the lever to hit the spot where it clicks... could the cold be the cause of the problem? It was about 25-ish and very windy on Saturday when the problem came up. It arose at the end of an hour plus outdoors.

Is the shifter shot, or is it the weather????
