Why am I a snob? Admittedly, my experince with tubular tires is minimal, I have only mounted two. For all the blather I have read, it was not difficult to do so. I ride Conti GP4000s on my modern bike. They are harder to take off and mount onto my rims than my little experience with tubulars.

For fixing a flat, on the road, I replace the tube, I don't patch until I get home. It take more time to resew a tubular, but it it certainly isn't more difficult than a clincher.

As for the money, clincher tires are less expensive but period correct tubular rims are very cheap and plentiful when compared to period correct clincher rims. So bang for your buck is pretty much a wash.
