I've recently found that Ebay is completely on the side of the sellers. They pay the bills so this is no surprise. The feedback system is seriously flawed and "payback feedback" from sellers is the biggest problem. I just had an '89 Trek shipped to me by a complete ****** who didn't even try to protect the frame from damage (there is a thread with pics on this forum). I went back and forth with this guy about compensation for his shoddy work. He offered $6 for touch-up paint. I refused this and told him it was an insult. I requested $40 for the time, paint and decal replacement. He told me to just leave negative feedback (and he would "do the same to me")- so basically I'm S.O.L. because I don't have enough "padding" in my feedback rating for a negative not to hurt.
From now on I'm looking for bikes locally. Screw Ebay for big easily damaged stuff from people who have no clue how to package things.
*Edit*
And I'm making it my mission to make sure this dumbass never sells another vintage bike so make sure you never buy from "nationwide922". He had a Gazelle up for auction that never sold so I think he may try that one again- just for the people who may be doing future searches
