Don't be bullied by the insurance company. Don't settle until you are healed.
About 10 years ago, I had a weird fracture in my shoulder socket. It was some period of time - if memory serves - something like 6 or 8 weeks before it diagnosed properly. It was a handful of specialists and a another of couple of months later before I convinced one of those specialists that my shoulder was not healing properly. Ended up with surgery and a good year of recovery before it was mostly normal again. Probably another 3 years or so before I stopped having occassional painful days.
I can't remember the last time it ached so I'd say there is hope that it will not be a lifelong hassle for you.
