It's been a strange commute my last two rides. Last night I left work kinda late, around 8pm. As I was biking out the detour route (SR-202), where the shoulders are very heavily covered with sand and other debris, I punctured my rear tire. Drove a good 2" nail through my brand new Town and Country, tire liner and tube Changed it on the side of the road in the dark with my bike headlight (glad it is removable) Actually the tire change went really well probably the best change I've done, especially do considering circumstances. I guess practice is making perfect so to speak. Only getting my wheel true was not so good.

So today I'm biking in and it is really raining. By far the heaviest rain I've ridden in on the way to work. I'm also riding on my new Brooks saddle, which is taking some getting used to. Once again on SR-202 trouble occurs. I begin to catch up with a backup of slow moving cars, wondering what's the rumpus. Turns out to be two dogs playing (and I mean playing) in the street. They are chasing each other in and running across the street. Cars are going really slow and stopping as the dogs get in the way. I'm on the shoulder, very wary at this point. I'm not a fan of dogs and I know that they could start chasing me at any point. Also I am very leery of a car swerving into my lane to avoid the dogs. So just as I am parallel to one the dogs a BMW creeping along hits the dog. I'm literally right next to it and I hear that unpleasant sound of car on flesh. The car has stopped dead and the dog goes running off. Seemed OK, not even limping. I biked on and it seemed like the BMW stayed there to check on the dog or something. Crazy.

On the plus side though they had swept the street since the night before! Yay! Still, I have to say I am looking forward to the trail opening up again.
