You worry too much. Rocket rings are just fine. I'm using one with an old pair of Shimano 105 cranks on my winter/rain beater and its working flawlessly. I skid and ride plenty of hills. The only problem with Rocket rings, is that they don't fit on some cranks very well. The bolt holes are positioned corectly for 130BCD, but the inside diameter of the ring is a little too small. I had to dremel mine a little to get it to fit onto my cranks, but it wasn't a big deal. You may not have this problem with other cranks.
