Yea I've been trying to practice. I notice it helps to either zone out or completely not pay attention to the fact that I am on a bike. Like watching TV trying or to do math in my head helps a bit.
Also I recently realized my chain tension was rather tight so I loosened it up to the recommended 1/2" vertical slack when pushed down with a finger. So now my cranks have very slight play when I switch pedaling directions and I found this "dead zone" cancels out small overcorrections during track stands and makes it a lot easier.
