It's amazing how in 2007, one needs to buy a car when having children. However, this was not the case 30 or 40 years ago.

My father had five kids and didn't buy a car until 1978. We lived in a neighborhood that had friends close by who could baby sit for us. As we grew up, my brothers and sisters walked or took the bus to school. Shopping involved talking a cart to the supermarket 15 blocks away. Things were much simpler.

Today, raising kids requires a car purchase. How sad.
