They tried that trick (controlled burns) in the Gold Coast hinterland earlier, but the trouble was, the fires still raged through there anyway (back in October). Luckily we got a deluge of rain when I went on my tour, and that cleaned it up.
Personally, I'd like to see something done to the idiots who light the fires. I know they are hard to catch, but if they made an example of the ones they
did catch (and could prove the guilt of, of course), by maybe making them liable for the costs of the damage they've done. We'll see how many others decide to do it.
