Fortunately odds don't account for behavior. I'm pretty sure that if you took a random sample of 5,000 people, many BF members would ride more than any of them. Besides, riding a few hours a day and using cycling as a way of getting around has to reduce your odds of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and motor vehicle accidents -- the top 4 causes of death on the list.

Yes, but balance that by the fact that most BF members are probably far more educated about proper bike handling in traffic and other dangerous situations. I mean, how many of those 1 in 5,000 do you think were drunk, homeless people on a 10 speed Huffy riding the wrong way down a one way street at 2 AM? *That* type of biker certainly has WAY higher chance of dying on a bike than any (most?) of us.
