The dude puts in a claimed 13,000 miles a year on a bicycle. If he's doing that chances are he's not putting in the 13,000 miles a year in a car most American's do. So throw 2 bottom brackets, and a handfull of wheelbearings in the scrap metal bin, then compare that to the 520 gallons of gas his car driving counterpart burned while also wearing out the moving parts in a vehicle weighing a ton.

I'm making an assumption that Pedex is telling the truth about his mileage, and as long as that's true, he's got a lot more credibility on issues of parts durability than most of us, and he sure as hell is more a part of the solution than a part of the problem when it comes to waste reduction.
